Texas Marijuana Laws Think Twice Before Using
Author: Elle WoodA number of states have decriminalized marijuana but Texas is not among them. Texas marijuana laws are tough. The state of Texas has a reputation for being intolerant of drug possession and use. Even a small amount of marijuana can land someone in jail for 6 months according to the Texas laws.
Texas is typical, in that it weighs punishment for marijuana by the amount purchased or sold. Less than one pound of marijuana usually carries a sentence of 6 months to 2 years in jail. Add the additional $2,000 to $10,000 fine on top of the jail time and one may want to reconsider lighting that joint in the Lone Star State.

How to Select a Marijuana Lawyer in Texas
If you need a Marijuana Lawyer to represent you in Texas, then you should give careful consideration to your choice of lawyer. There are many factors to consider when choosing a Marijuana Lawyer. An obvious factor to consider is the lawyer's experience. How long has the Lawyer been practicing marijuana law, and what percentage of his/her practice is devoted to marijuana possession? Also, how long has he/she been practicing marijuana law in your area? While the same marijuana laws apply throughout Texas, the people, policies, and customs of the local courts will likely be different from county to county. You may therefore want to hire a marijuana lawyer who has extensive legal experience practicing in the courts in your area.
Cost is another important factor to consider when choosing a Marijuana Lawyer in Texas. As you speak to different marijuana lawyers, you may find that the fees they charge will vary greatly, often by thousands of dollars. For this reason, too many people base their decision on price alone. This could be a very big mistake. Consider why prices vary. Most marijuana lawyers charge a flat fee for their services instead of hourly billing. Why? Well, since most of their clients are defendants, it would be an unwise risk for a marijuana lawyer to work without being paid in advance. Therefore, you will find that most marijuana lawyers charge a flat fee. Also, once a marijuana lawyer officially gets involved in a case, he/she cannot get out of the case unless a Motion to Withdraw is filed by the lawyer and granted by the Court. Many judges will not let a marijuana lawyer off a case because of a client's nonpayment. That is why most marijuana lawyers charge a flat fee which must be paid in-full before the representation begins. When setting a fee, a lawyer will usually take into consideration a number of important factors such as the type of case, the facts and circumstances of the case, the court involved, and the prospective client's past record. These factors can give the marijuana lawyer a good idea of the work required and the difficulty of that work. Different lawyers consider different factors, and assign greater or lesser importance to those factors, when deciding upon the appropriate legal fee to charge.
Often, the most important factors to consider when selecting a marijuana lawyer in Texas are the intangibles. Do you like the lawyer? Does he/she genuinely listen to you? Do you think the lawyer will work hard for you? Does he/she seem knowledgeable, honest, and dedicated? Whomever you select as your marijuana lawyer, your future will be in their hands. It is very important that you feel comfortable with your lawyer, and that you believe he/she will represent you aggressively and give you their best and honest advice. It is very difficult and costly to change lawyers in the middle of a marijuana case. The time that is wasted may put you at a legal disadvantage, and you will lose whatever money you paid. Moreover, if you are not happy with the outcome of your case, you will not get a second chance just because you did not like your lawyer or think that he/she did not do a "good job." No, the importance of selecting the right Texas Marijuana Lawyer for you, and getting it right the first time, cannot be overstated. Talk to several marijuana lawyers. Consider your options carefully, and choose wisely.
