DWI Arrests Increased This Holiday Season in Texas

There were about 20 percent more driving while intoxicated arrests during this past holiday period than in 2010.
Local and state law enforcement agencies were out in increased numbers, placing a higher priority on the dangerous, illegal activity between Dec. 17 and Sunday. There was also one DWI-related fatality this year, compared to none last year.
In 2010, there were about 46 arrests for drunken driving during that time period compared to about 56 this year. Although there were several more felony arrests for a third or more charge of DWI last year, there were more first-time offenders, according to records from the Midland County Sheriff’s Office, Midland Police Department and Texas Department of Public Safety.
